
Dr. Sumintra Manandhar Gurung (Centre)

Bardia, March 18, 2020. Late Dr. Chandra Prasad Gurung was renowned conservationist of Nepal. He was born in Sikles, remote Gurung village in Annapurna region.

Dr. Gurung designed and implemented Nepal’s first community based integrated conservation and development project, the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), he also served as member secretary of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation (KMTNC). He died on 23 September, 2006 following the helicopter crash at Ghunsa, Taplejung , Nepal. He won several prestigious awards in Nepal and abroad in the field of Conservation.

His wife Dr. Sumitra Manandhar Gurung and daughter Amanda Gurung are very keen conservationists and following Dr. Gurung’s footsteps. Recently, they were in Bardia national park looking for tiger and other wildlife. They were very happy for what they were doing.
