Frizzey Light, Austria distributes relief packages to the landslide affected of Myagdi

Bima village of Malika Rural Municipality ward no. 7 and Marang village of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality ward no.6 have been severely affected by the landslides caused by continuous heavy downpours through the first and second weeks of July 2020. A total of 26 people lost their lives leaving dozens of dear ones badly injured and without their lands, homes and livestock.

With the magnanimity and financial assistance from Frizzey Light (Non-Profit organization) Austria, their local alliance Lama Reisen Treks and Expedition coordinated with the District Co-ordination Committee Myagdi to implement this noble aid.

26 Families of Bima and 24 families of Marang village thus total 50 families received the relief materials. Relief packages included a set of warm sleeping bag, mattress and tarpaulins to prepare make-shift emergency shelters.

The team, led by Tshering Lama Sherpa drove through the challenging roads encountering several obstacles until Darbaang on the 6th of August 2020. It rained heavily during night which kept the team in vigilance. The next day saw the team walk for over 7 hours to reach the desired location for distribution.

All logistics/materials were divided into two different piles. The first pile (26 set of relief packages) would be carried to Tallogaon of Bima whereas the other pile (24 packages) would go to Marang village. Frizzey Light team members and the local youth club volunteered to carry those items to concerned and above said villagers. Ex. Trekking Guide and local social worker Taklal Pun assisted for management and smooth operation.

During their walk, Frizzey Light team witnessed huge landslides, fallen electric poles/wires, partly and totally buried houses and schools, land fissures, spoilt agriculture and pastoral land filled with silt and sediments; which was very sad and heart breaking.

At Bima, the local ward chairperson Resham Jugjali, social workers and intellectuals witnessed and applauded the humanitarian work of Frizzey Light.

Post lunch, the team marched down via slippery and landslide prone area towards the hamlet of Arkala. Thousands of locusts were flying around eating maize and millet on the fields what was left by landslides and recent disaster.

The team received the kind company of Mr. Devendra KC, chief of District Co-ordination Committee and Mr. Santosh Subedi, ward chairperson of Malika Rural Municipality ward no. 6, Darbang and ward chairperson Mr. Rajaram Subedi.

According to the team member Mr. Shes Kanta Sharma, without further ado the distribution took place in presence of the above mentioned local government representatives.

The beneficiaries showered gratitude towards the TEAM and organizer & donor Frizey Light. Mr. KC, who came all the way from Beni also felicitated the team for the immediate response & relief action during such natural calamities.

Tshering Lama Sherpa, Nepal representative of Frizzey Light Verein gave closing remarks and briefly mentioned how Frizzey Light Austria is helping in health and education sector in remote parts of Nepal. Mr. Sherpa added that they will come back to Myagdi and these communities when necessary and possible.

Warm scarves for elderly women and sports/education material for differently abled students were also distributed in Marang village. Those items were courtesy of Yes Helping Hands Pokhara.
